Rewire Your Brain for Happiness with Positive Affirmations

“What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life tomorrow: our life is the creation of our mind.”

Affirmations are short, positive statements that can be spoken out loud or silently to ourselves.

Through the practice of self-affirmation, the subconscious mind is fed with positivity, helping to ease and dissipate any negative thoughts that may be lingering.

Affirmations have been shown to boost hormones and chemicals in the brain leading to more positive thoughts and life experiences. 

When we engage in the practice of self-affirmation, it is like we are planting seeds within the brain; with daily nourishment, fresh and happy new thoughts will begin to grow and flourish.

 

In the beginning, it can certainly feel a bit odd to say these things to your self, especially if you have been known to be hard on your self in the past. It may seem unnatural and in many cases quite difficult to speak these affirmations aloud, this is where silently repeating, or writing them is just as effective, and a little less awkward. 

A lovely piece of advice from the Chopra Center Blog regarding getting started with affirmations is:

"You do not need to believe these statements to speak them or think them. If you don’t yet believe that you are peaceful, that’s OK. “Fake it ‘til you make it.” That is what reprogramming and repetition is all about. Write it, practice it, and affirm it until you believe it." 

Some examples of self-affirmations are:

~ I am strong and confident.
~I am patient and kind.
~I am productive and healthy.
~ I will avoid negative conversations.
~I am healthy, wealthy, safe, and wise.
~I trust myself.
~Loving myself makes me feel good.

So, speak your intentions, affirm yourself and believe that you can tackle and take on anything that you put your mind to. 

The mind is an extremely powerful place, and when infused with positivity and hope, the possibilities are endless.
